Ten Tips for Painless Weight Loss — Part 1 of 3

Changing your relationship with food can be tough. After all, you do need to eat something every day just to stay alive. Since you cannot cut out eating all together, you need to make choices about what and how you eat.

Our next 3 blog entries will be all about just that. Making it easy to make better, more healthy food  choices. To get you jump started, here is the first tip:

1) Eat breakfast — You’ve probably heard this one before. That’s because it is an important key to weight loss. If you wake up, go about your day without any fuel, you put your body in starvation mode. When that happens your body holds onto its fat for dear life. Once you finally do eat, you are so hungry that you load up on carbs (to stabilize your low blood sugar) and overeat. Your energy flags and your metabolism slows. And you know what that means, weight gain, not weight loss!

2) Drink Water — Swapping out sodas and sweet juices for water can equal hundreds of calories per week. Drinking a glass of water before eating will fill you up and you will eat less. Drinking water throughout the day will keep you hydrated, reduce false cravings, and help you lose weight by increasing your metabolism. Add a slice of lemon to increase detoxification benefits, and stay away from sodas, sugary drinks and alcohol. Do you really want to drink your calories?

3) Keep junk food out of sight — I know many of you will say the junk food in the house is for the kids or your husband, but if it is sabotaging your weight loss efforts, you have to do something about it. The best option, of course is not to have it in the house at all. You are much less likely to go to the 7-Eleven to buy a snack when you have a craving, than to eat something that is around the house. If that truly isn’t an option, keep the treats out of sight, on a high shelf or behind the healthy foods in the pantry. Get your family to help support you in this by keeping these items hidden away. I’ve even gone so far as to put food I didn’t want to eat in the car trunk! We are visual people so if you can’t see it, you probably won’t eat it and vice versa. Out of sight out of mind.

  1. I like these tips but I think the title is misleading. I came to read “Ten Tips” and I only got three. I think the title “Ten Tips for Painless Weight Loss, Pt.1” would have been more appropriate. Otherwise, we get our hopes up for Ten Tips, only get three and then feel a little tricked. Just a suggestion.

    Thanks for the feedback. I will make that change. I’d never want my readers to feel tricked. Since it got quite long to have all ten tips in one, and sometimes it gets overwhelming for people to incorporate a lot of things all at once, I decided to break it up into three posts.
